An Aberdeen-based subsea connectivity firm is helping keep children warm this winter with a selection of warm clothes worth over £1000 in aid of local charity AberNecessities. Hydro Group has donated 75 cosy jackets, hats and gloves to the charity, following a month of fundraising by staff. The ‘Coats for Kids’ fundraiser is the largest single donation of coats the charity has received, just in time for the winter months.

Lynne Elder, HR Coordinator at Hydro Group, said: “Aberdeen’s reputation as the energy capital of Europe belies the number of families living in poverty, relying on food banks and charitable help from organisations like AberNecessities. A warm coat is a vital essential for the cold winter months and many children go without. Our team of 100 staff in Aberdeen pulled together to bring in jackets and donate £1125 to purchase new coats in little over a month, which has allowed us to provide warm clothing for girls and boys up to 16 years old.”

Danielle Flecher-Horn, founder of AberNecessities, said: “We are very thankful to Hydro Group for their generous donation of children’s coats in a range of sizes. These jackets will make a big difference to the families which benefit from the help AberNecessities provides.”

Heather Andrade, Head of Sales at Hydro Group, said: “We hope that this small gesture goes some way towards ensuring children and families across the region have one less thing to worry about during the festive season.”

AberNecessities began less than a year ago, when it was founded by mother and daughter Michelle Herd and Danielle Flecher-Horn. The charity supports underprivileged families throughout Aberdeenshire and the city by providing them with essential items to help care for their children, such as clothing, nappies and footwear.

Bridge of Don-based Hydro Group designs, manufactures and installs subsea connectivity solutions including umbilical cables, electrical and optical connection systems, penetrators, and terminations.

Previous charitable efforts by Hydro Group have included a ‘True Blue’ day in support of male cancer charity Orchid, and a ‘Wear it Pink’ day to fundraise for Breast Cancer Now.
